With his newly-minted status as the Nawab of Pataudi, his trips as brand ambassador for Jaeger-LeCoultre and Chivas, and his romantic getaways with soon-to-be wife Kareena Kapoor, we noticed that Saif Ali Khan cannot travel without a few essential accessories. Here’s a breakdown of what we think Saif needs when he’s jet setting:

1) Handy Louis Vuitton Hold-All
This handy monogrammed bag has accompanied Saif Ali Khan on trips to Paris, London and beyond. We’ve spotted it dangling from his well-muscled shoulder a couple of times.

2) Nerd-Boy Glasses
Saif looks like the Greek god of geek in these heavy black-rim glasses. Wonder if he got them from Tom Ford, he apparently loves his suits!

3) Jacket/Sweater
The Bollywood star’s figured out how to wear the velvet jacket and the preppy sweater without looking pompous. Click here to know more about getting a wardrobe that’s tailored to fit.

4) Well-made Shoes
From the tan shoes he wore, inexplicably, with track pants (!) to the suede ones he’s been spotted in, it’s pretty obvious Saif has a thing for shoes.

5) Kareena Kapoor: She’s photogenic, famous and always hanging on to his arm, kind of like his LV!

Stepping out in style, Saif Ali Khan at Cannes film festival wearing a dinner jacket designed by Tom Ford and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Geographic watch at the Red Carpet.

Saif’s quote- I was at Cannes International Film Festival representing my brand Chivas but I felt like I am representing my industry (indian film industry ) too.. And I feel proud to do so.. Yesterday I hosted a party and truly enjoyed meeting some interesting people from global cinema and understanding their approach towards film making. It’s amazing how different their taste and palette towards cinema is compared to ours. For me ideal reason for coming back to Cannes would be to showcase a movie, I hope I come back representing a film we produce in the near future. For now it’s been a great experience to be here at the French Riviera..

It’s always nice to have people look after you when you are in a foreign land and especially for the opening night of the most sought after international film event where the world’s best congregate. The interest of being present at the Festival De Cannes as a guest of global luxury brand Chivas Regal was strong.

The flight from Mumbai to Nice in France was long, but the personal welcome on arrival was most refreshing. I was driven straight to the classy and luxurious Martinez Hotel. The Tom Ford jacket which I planned to wear seemed apt for the red carpet. A sense of expectation was there, and a certain curiosity to meet the finest in my profession.

The ‘red carpet’ at Cannes is most talked about and leads to the opening movie premiere at 7 in the evening. A section of people and media here are no less crazy about Bollywood than in Mumbai. Walking the red carpet with many flashbulbs clicking is something we are used to back home, but seeing the international media with a similar sense made me feel proud of our country, our industry and felt good personally. The movie Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris lived up to its billing for opening Festival De Cannes, 2011.

I am told that a Michelin meal at the Palme d’or was waiting for me when I finished with the screening. After that we headed out to the after partyon the Croisette. I planned to catch up with quite a few guests from the global fraternity. We sure did let our hair down.
Yesterday a helicopter waited to take me to Nice Airport, from where I took a flight back home.

Saif ali khan will be seen wearing a dinner jacket by celebrated American (ex-Gucci designer) Tom Ford instead of Indian wear for the Cannes red carpet as he feels he needs to maintain the dress code.

We thus asked ace designer Shahid Amir who has been designing for Saif for quite some time now to suggest what would have been ideal for Saif for the Cannes red carpet.
Shahid is in Cannes himself all set to launch his own collection at two fashion shows on the same day, May 13th, 2011. He is the only Indian designer who has been invited until date to showcase his collection at the Cannes 2011.
“Saif Ali Khan is very stylish. He is a trend setter of sorts and carries Indian clothes impeccably well. I’d love to see Saif wear an Achkan (bandhgala) embellished with buttons on its sleeves. He looks like a true nawab in it.”
With even Ash, Freida, Sonam opting for gowns at the event, would have been nice to see Saif flaunting the Indian style on the Cannes red carpet but since he has opted for Tom Ford, how can he ever go wrong!
For those who are wondering what Achkan suit is, we’ve often seen Saif (at events and weddings), Imran Khan (in his engagement), Anil Kapoor (on ramp), Fardeen Khan wear it several times.
