Stars, nowadays, right from Amitabh Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan have made their presence quite clear on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and through blogging. However, where on one hand, actors and actresses are lining up to sign up on such sites, the recently crowned nawab Saif Ali Khan is quite the self-confessed recluse when it comes to social networking sites.

Sources claim that one of the main reasons Langda Tyagi has stayed away from such networking sites is because he doesn’t want to undergo the pressure of coming up with some witty and clever remark all the time. Moreover, the princely Khan also believes that while the Internet is a great platform for many things, he does not feel the need to share his every passing thought with the public.

Incidentally, Ranbir Kapoor, the cousin brother of Saif’s beau Kareena also reportedly abhors social networking sites and has this opinion that stars should maintain an aura of mystery around themselves, which vanishes if they remain accessible to the public at large through such websites.

Guess it’s not so easy to ‘poke’ royalty, eh Mr. Khan?

We reveal how the controversial Nawab tranformed into one of the hottest Khans in T’town

Prince Charming
Then: Saif entered the industry in the 90s with a lot of hype. After all, he was Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore’s son. But despite being signed by good banners, his early movies were disappointing. His styling was weak, his voice was unimpressive and he couldn’t dance. He was careless about his appearance and seemed to be insincere towards work.

Now: Saif’s fortunes changed with Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai (DCH). Saif had a makeover – a new hairstyle, a leaner and fitter body and, overall, a cool new look. DCH was followed by films like Ek Hasina Thi, Kal Ho Na Ho and Hum Tum which reiterated his ‘urban cool’ appeal. He started taking care of his looks and health. A few years ago, when he was admitted to hospital because of chest pain, he even gave up smoking. Now, he gyms and practises yoga regularly. “I’d like to believe I am looking good and I am not being vain. For what it’s worth, I wasn’t born with a face that has ‘hero’ written all over it. At times, people have even called me a ‘funny-looking guy’. It’s taken a lot of effort to look like the typical hero; a man the youth can identify with,” he says.

A watch with Chhote Nawab’s Pataudi family crest on it!

Saif Ali Khan, B-town’s resident watch connoisseur had an international high-end Swiss watch brand fly down one of their best watches for him at the Cannes International Film Festival.

Seeing the Pataudi son’s obsession with the accessory, the brand has now decided to introduce a limited edition wristwatch bearing his family’s crest on it.

I am a ‘Watch’ man
Says a source close to the Chhote Nawab, “Saif loves collecting high-end watches from all parts of the world and has one of the best watch collections in Bollywood today.

Last week, he walked the red carpet at Cannes wearing a Tom Ford dinner jacket and an exclusive Swiss watch.

He had hand-picked that particular piece and had had the brand fly it down to him all the way from Switzerland for his red-carpet appearance.”

The luxury watchmakers will now work on a special edition time-piece bearing Saif’s family (Pataudi) crest and will gift it to him in a month’s time.

Saif says, “It is too early to talk about these things. But yes, I love watches and collecting them.”

Saif on Cannes
I was at Cannes, representing my brand but I also felt like I was representing my industry. Yesterday, I hosted a party and truly enjoyed meeting some interesting people from global cinema.

It’s amazing how different their taste and palette towards cinema is compared to ours. For me, the ideal reason to come back to the French Riviera would be to showcase a movie of my own
