Muscat: Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor will attend the premiere of their film ‘Agent Vinod’ at the seventh edition of the Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF) on March 25. A news channel has quoted the organisers, as saying in a press release that the Bollywood spy thriller is being premiered for the first time at the festival.

The film has been directed by Sriram Raghavan under the banner of Saif Ali Khan’s home production, Illuminati Films.

“A bit of Tintin, a bit of Bond, a bit of Alistair McLean and well, a little bit of fun and frolic and a lot of adventure…that is what ‘Agent Vinod’, the much awaited Bollywood flick is all about,” said Saif Ali Khan in a statement issued here.

The movie was shot in Morocco, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Latvia, besides other countries.

MIFF Chairman, Dr Khalid Al Zadjali, who has the honour of making Oman’s first ever feature film Boom, was quoted, as saying: “This movie’s entry is ground-breaking as far as the nascent cinema industry in Oman is concerned.”

He said that it would be great to have movie stars like Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor visiting Muscat for the MIFF.

Brawl wasn’t planned to create publicity for film Agent Vinod, says actor and producer

Saif Ali Khan’s hot-headed attitude has garnered the actor enough limelight in the past two days. However this incident comes at a point, a time when his dream movie “Agent Vinod” is close to release.

While theories were floating that the “ugly incident” was planned publicity, the nawab completely denies the happening. Saif says, “We don’t need such kind of publicity, such negative things are completely unwarranted.”

Agent Vinod is made under Saif’s banner Illuminati Films and as a producer he doesn’t like such cheap gimmicks. “It usually depends on the class and kind of a production house. We didn’t want to create newspaper headlines which would create shock and sensationalism. This kind of stuff doesn’t suit our production house. I don’t believe in garnering publicity in such a negative manner. Rather our posters and promos should create the right kind of buzz,” says Saif.

In an official statement the actor had said that the brawl was a result of self-defence as even the ladies were present, there was bad language used, but became abusive and was difficult to handle.

However, being a famed name Saif feels that being a celebrity means you are constantly under the scanner, and people are watchful of all things you do. “I try to control as much as I can, in every situation. We are examples for our fans and there is always a camera around. But even we are normal people. We need to react correctly to set an example for others,” says Saif.

On the occasion, Saif was dining with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and other Bollywood friends – Karisma Kapoor; Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora Ladak and her husband Shakeel Ladak.

Coming out in Saif’s defence Amrita stated, “It is sad that celebrities are becoming victims of other people who want their 15 minutes of fame. And if the people concerned were assaulted so badly, how come they were fit enough to be on television and give interviews all day.”

MUMBAI: Saif Ali Khan issued an official statement about the assault issue. Here it is:

“There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted.
I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen. I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done.
I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they are saying about me with such straight faces.
I think they have the cc tv footage in the restaurant that will prove everything.
I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided. I don’t think any gentleman would have behaved differently”

Mumbai: A case of assault has been registered against actor Saif Ali Khan on the basis of a complaint filed a man who accused Khan and his aides of breaking his nose after a scuffle inside the Taj Hotel here.
According to sources, the Mumbai police will question Khan for the alleged assault and decide whether to arrest him depending on what comes out in the probe.
Khan was said to be accompanied by his girlfriend and actress Kareena Kapoor at the time of the incident. Kareena’s statement could also be recorded.
The case was registered on Tuesday night under section 325, read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
The complaint was filed by a person named Sharma. He said Khan along with Kapoor and other friends was having dinner at the Wasabi Restaurant in the Taj Hotel. Sharma, a resident of Juhu was also having dinner with his family at the adjoining table.
His complaint to Khan about the noise at their table apparently led to a heated argument and a scuffle. Khan allegedly told him to go to a library if he wanted peace and quiet.
Sharma said Saif and his two associates allegedly rained blows upon him fracturing his nose. Khan is gearing up for his spy thriller Agent Vinod which will hit the theatres on March 23.

Saif Ali Khan, who has produced the upcoming spy thriller ‘Agent Vinod’ alongwith Dinesh Vijan, says the film has the potential to cross the 100 crore mark.

“The film will be released both in multiplexes and single screens and it has the potential to cross Rs 100 crore in revenue and I look forward to it,” Saif, who was here to promote the film, told PTI.

Produced at a cost of Rs 60 crores, the film was completed in 19 months. It will be released in 3,500 screens globally including 2,500 in India on March 23.

Saif, 41, who also plays the lead role in the film, said “it will give value for money,” adding,
“The film has been produced keeping Indian sensitives in mind.”

Dinesh said, “It is a fun movie with a very Indian hero. The film has been shot keeping Indian sensibilities in mind. It is a realistic film but larger than life.”

Describing it as a fast-paced film, Dinesh said the film was shot in 12 countries including Riga, Latvia, Morocco, Russia, Uzbekistan, UK and India.

Saif, known for his roles in the cult movie ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Omkara’, said he had gone to Vietnam for a couple of weeks to undergo training in action for the film.
He said he did all the stunts himself. “In India we do the stunts and we have good technicians in India. What we need is good writers.”

Saif described his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, the heroine of the film as a “phenomenal actor. She is just made for the film.”

The film is written and directed by Sriram Raghavan. Pritam Chakraborty has provided music for the film which will be distributed by Illuminati Films owned by Saif and Eros Entertainment.
